A 1st to remember

I took a break recently from regular cake work to plan and prepare for my son's first birthday party. He is my first child so naturally I had to try to do it all :) It was so much fun to prepare his party and cake under the theme of 'Things that go Round." Love my little man :)

Two tier fondant cake, chocolate with raspberry ganache and white with raspberry ganache

White cake with buttercream frosting. His smash cake (which dad ended up doing more damage to then him.)

All in all, it was a lot of fun, I think I stressed more about this cake then any others because it was for me (well him but you know) and I put so much pressure on myself, but all in all it went great!

I dream in chocolate

Not sure how many of you can say you do this, but I know I do. I LOVE chocolate, like REALLY love chocolate. I gave it up for the first 7 months of my son's life because it seemed to upset his tummy and man was that TOUGH! But don't worry I'm making up for lost time now ;) Had a family gathering last weekend and was able to whip together this baby before heading over for dinner.
A chocolate cake, with chocolate raspberry filling, with chocolate buttercream :) yep pretty sure I enjoyed it, as well as the family :)

St. Patricks Day Cake Pops!

This month at my work we are raising money for our annual Bag Hunger Campaign and I asked my team to host a in-store bake sale to raise money for our team to donate. I made some cupcakes (which of course I forgot to photograph) and these yummy cake pops! They were apparently better then I realized as I sold all 30 of them in the first 15 minutes :)
Sorry the picture isn't better but I was in a hurry to get to work and so I snapped one real quick!

Orange cake

Yesterday I had the opportunity to make a cake of my choice for a co-worker who is leaving our store to work at another location. So I choose to experiment a bit and try out a new buttercream and play around with orange flavors. So here she is, a white cake with orange marmalade filling and orange buttercream (literally orange in flavor and color) :) it was enjoyed by all.

I also played around with the icing of the cake and did something different on the sides instead a usual flat side. Just trying something new.

Sweet Potato Cupcake w/ Brown Sugar Marshmellow Frosting

Evening friends and family, check out my latest adventure in baking (after a not so great adventure last night in German Chocolate Cake)Now I can't take all the credit for this, my sister posted this blog link on her FB page tonight and I was like YUM! I MUST MAKE THIS! So I did! I did adapt the recipe a bit to use some different things but they are good.

While I whipped eggs, I cooked down the sugar and water and after some boiling,
I added some marshmallows, then dumped it into the stiff egg whites and mixed until I had some frosting, then added a bit of vanilla and mixed some more. Quickly I dropped into a bag and pipped some on top my cupcakes and Voila!
Have to admit, for never doing something like this, and not even knowing what to expect, I really enjoyed the light fluffy frosting and a sweet cupcake :)
The recipe I adapted was from this blog, http://www.laurenslatest.com/
