While this cake was so much fun, it was filled with challenges (which is frustrating for such a small cake). The family who asked for this cake was adorable and sweet and I felt terrible for the outcome. But all this cake proved to me was that mistakes will happen, especially when food is involved and being honest and upfront goes a long way. I learned a lot from this cake when it came to my mistakes but all in all, had a fun time putting together this sweet little 4 and 6 inch white cake.
A very Happy Birthday to this little girl who is celebrating her first birthday Minnie Mouse Style.

Fall Wedding Cake
I was commissioned to do a Wedding Cake. This was going to be the biggest cake I have ever done and I was SO excited. I spent weeks preparing and prepping for this cake. I spent hours making my fondant and planning out this cake. Overall, the bride was thrilled with how the cake turned out. Here are some pictures of the assembly and finished product.
It was a white cake, with fondant and fresh flowers.

Country Carnival Cake
I was asked a few weeks ago about donating a cake to a school's Country Carnival for a raffle. I jumped on the chance to do this and get some of my information out there and for people to see some of my work. I sat for weeks on this idea, trying to figure out how to make a Halloween/Country cake... Well after much discussion, and many drawings later my loving husband and I concocted this colorful 2 tier chocolate and white buttercream cake. Mmmm.
Monster Trucks!
I had the privilege of constructing this fun Monster Truck themed cake for my nephews 3rd birthday, and the look on his face when he saw it was priceless! So adorable! No, I didn't make trucks for it (due to a time crunch and just returning from a 4 day vacation that morning) so we improvised. But he loved it all the same! Happy Birthday Dev!
He is just so darn adorable.

Crepe Cake
Today I made this OH SO YUMMY crepe cake. I have never done crepes before and I was asked to make a french dessert for a church activity. I had no idea what to do so I set out to do some research. I came up with crepes, since they are an iconic french food. I then searched and searched and searched some more for what kind of crepes to make. That was when I thought well I can make a cake (since its kinda my thing). The best part, I found some great recipes for crepe cakes so I set out to do.
For starters I made the crepe batter the night before as recommended in the recipe, then I began the Pastry Creme the night before as well. Once I had those made I went to bed :)
The next morning, the real fun and work began. I took out my batter and waited for it to get to room temperature then placed it into this squeeze bottle and warmed up my pans and got cooking.
It took me a few crepes to figure out a good system but once I did, I was moving! I used 2 pans, one to get them started by squeezing the batter into it, and then once it had cooked 2 minutes I would lift it out and flip it into the other pan to finish cooking while I started a new one.
Next, I started my layers, I start with a crepe, then spread my Pastry Creme over it then set out to making layers, and layers, and more layers.
Here is a picture of the crepe half way stacked, and then when I reached 20!
I had to add the photo of my little boy enjoying a crepe for the first time. Such a cutie pie!
Here it is, I stacked it, I put it in the refrigerator, and then I sprinkled powdered sugar on top, and drizzled some raspberry sauce. YUMMY!

Chocolate Lava
A few weeks ago, we had some of the young missionaries from out ward over for dinner and I wanted to make something yummy for dessert (well dinner too, but I LOVE dessert). So I set out for chocolate cake of sorts, and stumbled upon a chocolate lava cake. Mmm. So here she is,
Here you see my chocolate ganache filling in the blue pool that I made a few hours before and had to refrigerate to be able to form into balls. In the mixer is the beginning of the cake, its just eggs, some egg yokes, sugar and vanilla for the moment. I have 6, 4 oz ramekins on the left waiting to be filled with chocolate goodness.
Here is the cake mix with the melted chocolate and butter mix being folded in, and the little bit of flour.
They are going in the oven, the cake mix is poured in and the chocolate ganache balls are dropped into the center of each on just before you place in the oven to bake.
A close up of the cake before cooking.
Here is the cake after cooking, the cake is a little hard to the touch, but the ganache is hot and runny like lava ;)
Now quick before it cools, I add a scoop of ice cream, some whipping cream, and fresh raspberries (or any topping of your choice really, I've done caramel, jam, mixed berries, more chocolate.
Then enjoy! Its a deliciously easy cake to prepare, and so yummy. I found the recipe here, at all recipes. Go try for yourself.

A Crepe Cake you say...
Yesterday I was asked if I would make a french dessert for a church function for the following week. First thought, I don't know any french desserts ( I think). Next thought, how hard can it really be???
So I set out to do some research and landing with crepes! I LOVE THESE THINGS, and they go for dinner, breakfast, dessert. You choose, they are pretty much awesome! Then while working out what I wanted to cook and serve and talk about at this function I stumbled upon this picture.

Looking for work
Its tough when you decide to have a home business, but its really tough when it starts mostly word of mouth. I have been privileged to have done work for some great people and look forward to more. That being said, my calendar is getting pretty open for cakes in the future, so if you have an event coming up let me know what awesome cake masterpiece I can create for you. I would love to do it and am always up for a challenge. :)

A June Wedding
My first Wedding Cake was a blast. My sister in law told her sister about me and after chatting briefly she asked me to do her cake. I was so excited as this would be my first Wedding Cake and I have been so excited to for the chance to add to my portfolio. Becki was an excited and easy to please. After a few drawings we finally landed on a design and then all I had to do was plan :)
This wasn't just any wedding either, it was a wedding back in my hometown, so my first cake was a traveling cake, and a wedding cake ;)
I set out to do research and figure out the best way to do this, cause not only was this cake special it was also a cake that would have 2 'fake' tiers since the they didn't want to serve the cake just mostly for pictures. I decided to make the fake tier bases prior to leaving for my parents and bake the cake and do all decorating there.
Here are a couple of shots of me doing the scroll work on the cake. Because my family is so busy, crazy, and full of small kids at this point I was wearing ear buds to block out the noise and keep me from getting distracted. My family was understanding and patient :)
I was very happy with how the cake turned out and so was the bride and groom.
I chose to sneak their names and the wedding date into the scroll work as an after thought and everyone thought it was a great idea and loved it!
Congrats to Brian and Becki Grow!!!

Can You Tell Me How To Get To Sesame Street?
I was so excited to get asked to do this awesome birthday cake for a special little boys 1st birthday. Cupcakes are a lot of work but so much fun when they are finished and I think they were the perfect way to to add fun to this cake.
Big Bird, Elmo, Oscar, and Cookie Monster
(a nut free, lots of fruit carrot cake with buttercream icing, and fondant details, and white and chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting and fondant details.)
A non-girly baby shower cake...
I love babies, I mean I really love babies, everything about babies, and everything having to do with babies. I only have one son who currently is 15 months and I miss that little baby (even though I love my little toddler).
I was so excited to be asked to do this baby shower cake and so excited when she told me it was for a baby girl. Then she told me that the parents aren't into the super girly, so to make it more neutral and at first I was a little disappointed, then as I sat down to draw out the design and became more and more excited about working on this cake. Through many tweaks and changes I was finally able to land here and I was so happy with how it turned out. Congrats to this family as they welcome a little girl to their group, and thanks for the opportunity to do this lovely cake.

Giant Cake Pop!
I was asked to make a cake for a former associate of mine and I had SO MUCH FUN! She had once mentioned to me after eating one of my cake pops how much she loved them and that for her birthday she wanted a GIANT cake pop... so when I was asked to make a cake for her, I couldn't resist making this giant cake pop! Happy Birthday Bobbie!!!
